Water Research and Management Center
The Water Research and Management Center (WRMC) is an environmental studies laboratory of the Institute of Chemistry in the University of the Philippines Diliman.
With principal investigator Dr. Maria Pythias B. Espino, the WRMC conducts research on the detection and analysis of environmental pollutants with a particular focus on freshwater lakes and rivers in the Philippines.
The Water Research Management Center is located at Rm. 203-204, 2nd floor of the Institute of Chemistry Research Building, College of Science, National Science Complex, University of the Philippines Diliman.

The Institute of Chemistry was recognized by the LLDA last October 2025 for the Project EDAM, “Endorcrine Disruptors, Antibiotics, and Heavy Metals in Laguna Lake Water: Impacts on Food and Water Security”. Represented by Dr. Maria Pythias Espino and Ms. Katrina Sta. Ana.

April 2024 • Dr. Ma. Anita M. Bautista from NIMBB, as seen in the image, discusses the current techniques used for the taxonomic identification of bacterial species and the determination of their antibiotic resistance genes present in animal farm soils. The project leader, Dr. Maria Pythias B. Espino, along with Dr. Aurelio de los Reyes V from IM, also discussed the techniques for the analytical quantification and modeling of antibiotics concentration.
